Yerong is a senior research associate at the Institute of Computational Design and Construction (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. She received her PhD degree from the University of Sydney in Australia by completing a thesis that explored anisotropy and residual stress in fused filament fabrication for 4D printing. She also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering, First Class Honours) and a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Sydney, Australia.
With an interdisciplinary background, Yerong’s research interests focus on the integration of material engineering, architecture, and digital technology. Her work explores the designing and programming of materials through innovative compositions and advanced manufacturing processes to address diverse architectural and engineering needs. As part of the Material Programming Research Group at ICD, Yerong is currently leading the ArchiBioFoam project to create adaptive mono-material architecture using bio-foams and to develop digital design-to-fabrication workflows with robotic additive manufacturing.
