Felix Amtsberg is Postdoctoral research associate at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD). He is member of the EXC 2120: Cluster of Excellence IntCDC - Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture where his research focusses on novel digital fabrication platforms for timber structures.

After completing his apprenticeship as a joiner in Germany, he studied architecture at University of Kassel and received his Diploma (2008) and Master's degree (2010). From 2011 to 2016 he worked as a Scientific Assistant at the Institute for Structural Design (TU Graz) in Austria, where he was coordinating the ABB Robotic Research and Teaching Laboratory and earned his PhD with distinction in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Peters (Institute for Structural Design) and Prof. Martin Bechthold (Harvard GSD).

Between 2016 and 2019 Felix was working as a postdoctoral researcher at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) investigating new combinations of unprocessed natural construction materials and digital fabrication methods.

His research interests include digital fabrication of load carrying structures and sensory informed production of natural grown resources.
