LUX - Light, a Natural Resource for Building and City
The core of the research project is the transfer of the phenomena and connections of natural lighting in building organization and urban planning into an easily comprehensible set of rules for the architect. This is to be done in the form of an illustrative and accessible publication as well as an interactive tool for the evaluation of early design decisions. With regard to the target group, the following aspects are decisive: reliability of the information, relevance for early planning, simplicity and comprehensibility, user friendliness and vividness. The designing architect or city planning should be placed in the position to set favorable parameters even before the inclusion of a specialist planner and to be able to assess the consequences of his design choices with regard to daylight yield and solar energy yield at an early stage.
The results obtained are to be published in the classic print medium as a set of rules with well-founded background information and concrete statements for the early stage design . In addition, a simple computer-based interactive tool is to be developed. This is intended to provide a accessible way for all architects and planners and to evaluate and classify current work in terms of daylight optimization.
