Felipe Tavares is currently professor at Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), Salvador, Brazil and completing a postdoc at Universidade de Campinas, São Paulo, focusing his research on structural design automation. He is a structural engineer (since 2005) and has been teaching structural design at the Faculty of Architecture at UFBA since 2011. Felipe holds a master and doctorate degree in structural dynamics and vibration analysis from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and Universidade Federal da Paraíba, respectively. In July 2017 he is a visitor at Darmstadt University and other German institutions and design offices. His lecture brings discussions about structural design automation and its context within the digital fabrication era, in addition to its implications including design process integration, optimization and using design tools to avoid various re-workings of design. These design tools can shift structural design education in architecture.
